Some UK research on Internet usage:

  • The most common place to access the Internet was at home (86 per cent), 48 per cent accessed at work, 33 per cent at another person’s home, 16 per cent at a place of education and 10 per cent at a public library. 1

  • Of those adults who have ever used the Internet, 92 per cent had used a search engine to find information, 78 per cent sent an e-mail with an attachment, 32 per cent posted a message in a chat room or newsgroup, 22 per cent had used peer to peer file sharing, such as exchanging music and films and 20 per cent had created a web page. 1

  •  Internet spending results form the ONS e-commerce survey shows Internet sales of goods and services to households in 2004 of 18.1 billion pounds, with growth since 2003 of over 67 per cent. 2

  • The Average Web usage in the United Kingdom on the month of February 2006 either at home or work was: visits per person 36, domains visited per person 78 and PC time per person 33:34:02 hours. 3

  • The top 5 companies visited on the month of February 2006 were Microsoft, Google, Yahoo, eBay and BBC.3
